The ecological talent - education for sustainability

Looking at the “grand challenges” of the 21st century (climate change, biodiversity, poverty, migration, ...) it becomes clear that these challenges are always inextricably linked with ecological, economic and social aspects.

This is expressed by the 17 SDGs of the UN and the EU's Green Deal.

These connections must therefore also be taken into account in education and teaching, so that socially necessary changes in action can take place. For the educational sector, this means that sustainability is not just the task of biology teaching, but must also include all other subjects and all levels of education.

The Styrian Education Directorate, which acts as a consortium leader of 170 schools with 8,440 employees (teachers and administrative staff) and 66,354 students and assigned authorities and networks in this project, sees the project "The ecological talent - education for sustainability" ( DökoT) as an educational response to the EU's Green Deal and the UN's global development goals.

The Green Deal also requires activities in the education sector: "The ecological talent" takes on this task and uses its networks from many years of European cooperation. Learning from one another, knowledge with one another and finding solutions for the future of our children together.

Das ökologische Talent – Bildung zur Nachhaltigkeit

Betrachtet man die „Grand challenges“ des 21 Jh. (Klimawandel, Biodiversität, Armut, Migration, …) so wird klar, dass bei diesen Herausforderungen immer ökologische, ökonomische und soziale Aspekte untrennbar miteinander verbunden sind.

Dies bringen die 17 SDGs der UN und der Green Deal der EU zum Ausdruck.

Auch in Bildung und Unterricht müssen deshalb diese Verknüpfungen berücksichtigt werden, damit es gesellschaftlich zu dringend notwendigen Handlungsänderungen kommt. Für den Bildungsbereich bedeutet dies, dass Nachhaltigkeit nicht nur Aufgabe des Biologieunterrichtes darstellt, sondern alle anderen Fächer und alle Ebenen der Bildung umfassen muss.

Die Bildungsdirektion Steiermark, die in diesem Projekt als Konsortiumsleiter von 170 Schulen mit 8.440 Mitarbeiter*innen (Lehrer*innen und Verwaltungspersonal) und 66.354 Schüler*innen und zugeordneten Behörden und Netzwerken agiert, sieht das Projekt "Das ökologische Talent - Bildung zur Nachhaltigkeit" (DökoT) als eine bildungspolitische Antwort auf den Green Deal der EU und die Globalen Entwicklungsziele der UN.

Der Green Deal erfordert Aktivitäten auch im Bildungssektor: "Das ökologische Talent" stellt sich dieser Aufgabe und nützt dabei seine Netzwerke aus langjähriger europäischer Zusammenarbeit. Voneinander lernen, miteinander Wissen und miteinander Lösungen für die Zukunft unserer Kinder finden.
